I have a 99 dodge cummins 2500 QC, I want to put some better speakers in it but dont know what size it currently has, I want to jsut replace the stockers with some sweet aftermarkets. I have a 52x4 watt sterio in there right now, do you think I will need a amp? maybe a 4way 300wat? Im also debating on puting in some 10s any ideas on that?

Hello,
We show 6x9 in the front and 5.25 in the rears. You may want to confirm this.
Here are the speaker harnesses if you need them

52x4s in reality is really about 12-15 watts PER channel clean power. If you are adding any good aftermarket speakers, adding a small 4 channel amp will help. A small 40-60RMS (continuous power, not peak) per channel amplifier will do. This will keep things simple, the space required for the amp smaller, and allow you use a 8 gauge amplifier wiring kit.

To round off the system, and because you have a small cabin area, perhaps a single 10 inch in a small box.

these are the speakers I was thinking of getting, what do you think of them? can you give me a link to amp for these that will be plenty to rock the truck? I dont think the size of the amp will be a prob becuase there is a ton of room under the drivers seat and the passengers seat.

Since you are going with PYLE SPEAKERS, I think this pyle amp will do the job.

k never mind I think I figured it out... next question, it says 250wattsX4 so thats 250 watts going ot each speaker, the 5.25s I have piced out say that they will only take like 150, wont this blow the 5.25s? or is there a way to turn down the wattage to those two channel? sorry about the stupid questions this is my first system and the first time Ive really dug into autio.

Usually the amps have a little thing like a volume control on the side/bottom of the amp. It is called the gain control.
This allows you to adjust the sensitivity and how much output the amp will put out according to the level of audio it is receiving.
Here is another amp you may consider.
http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=7401&cat=364&page=1
As you can see, the "PEAK POWER" which is with noise and distortion is around 200 watts per channel. This is the peak the amplifier can put out. It doesnt mean it is clean sound.
The true rating is the RMS rating which is closer to around 60 watts
The RMS rating is the maximum watt the amp outputs before distortion.

I probably need alil more than 60rms dont I? the 5.25s are rated for 70rms, not shure what the6.9s are tho cause it doesnt say.

60 rms would probably be perfect, if you want to have extra, take a look

Yes, it is a good package. Pyle makes entry to mid-high end equipment. Depending on your budget, you may also consider Pioneer speakers and amplifiers which we favor.

The choice is really up to you, base it on looks, price etc.
All small speakers (less than 8 inches) are sold in pairs. Subwoofers, 8 inch and larger are sold as each (single)

Keep in mind, the 1600 watts is peak power. The real rating is closer to 50-60 watts RMS. You can do without an amp, the amplifier will allow you to run the speakers without it clipping or distortion at high volumes.
If you decide to NOT buy an amplifier, go with PIONEER speakers, because they are very "efficient" and will play "louder" without an amplifier and clearer.

so I probably dont need a 1000 watt amp for the speakers do I?

I think for your setup, without components, you should choose Pioneer speakers which are very efficient without an amplifier. You can always add the amplifier later if you decide the speakers are clipping at high volumes (do you listen to your music very loud) or just moderately?

I jsut bought a ma audio 800 watt amp that does 100 watts rms, stupid question but what is a crossover what does it do? and what do you mean by components?
autotoys
08-24-2006, 07:14 PM
components= Mid bass speaker with Tweeters.
The crossover in your amp prevents high or low frequencies from playing, if it is a subwoofer amp, it can prevent highs from playing and damaging the subwoofer.

Any 2 channel amp will do.
Even a mono amp if you have one speaker.
