Default DICE iPod adapter in 2005 Honda Accord EX (customer)

    Hello,

Yesterday I ordered the DICE i-HONDA-R3 adapter (Order ID #62754) for my 2005 Honda Accord EX with leather (but no nav). The car has the factory 6-disc changer (in dash) and is XM capable, but I haven't used the XM since the three-month trial expired and plan to unplug it to take advantage of the DICE's text capabilities.

I've found several helpful sites that detail how to remove the necessary components to do the installation. Here's a few for those that are mulling the same (or a similar) installation:

    http://www.beaufordbuddy.com/ipod_install_1.htm
    http://www.distantcreations.com/accordipod/
    http://members.aol.com/hillstones/pr...elinkv1_0.html

I did have a couple questions:

    1) By informal poll, what is everyone's favorite location for the connector? I had planned to fish the ipod connector cable through to the center console, but my wife and brother both seem to think it would be better to have the ipod in the flip-up bin underneath the stereo. I'm torn.

    2) How long is the iPod connector cable that comes with the DICE unit? I know the cable that runs from the DICE to the head unit is available in a range of lengths, but I haven't seen any info about the cable that runs from the DICE to the iPod. If it's short, I may have my answer to question 1.

    3) Any tips on installation? Where do I find the security code for my stereo? I've read that disconnecting the battery will cause this to reset and could cause problems after I hook everything back up.

    4) What have people's experiences with the DICE been like? Good? Bad?

You may not have to disconnect the radio plug to plug in the dice, just hang it out and then plug it into the back of the radio.

The bin under the radio is an excellent spot to route the ipod cable.

If you need an extension, that can be found below

Hmmm...Not sure what you mean by this. Most pictures I've seen only show one available connector, so I figured I would have to unplug the XM to plug in the DICE and just leave the XM dangling (which doesn't bother me because I don't use it). Wouldn't I need the R4 to have both XM and DICE?

Also, do I have to disconnect the battery before doing this work or can it be safely done with the battery still hooked up? That would eliminate my concerns about the security code.

Sorry to clarify, you do not need to disconnect the RADIO POWER plug from the car, just get behind the radio and plug the dice unit in. Just make sure you do all this with the car off.
