Default ACC, Power and Antenna locations

I just purchased a an RF add on CD changer from CarToys. Most likely it will be a trunk install.

The car is my wife's '97 Mercury Sable. Can any one tell me the easiest places to pick up the accessory and power leads and also the best way to tie into the antenna lead?

The antenna is fender mounted on the on the rear drivers side. No obvious trunk connections. I'm hoping to avoid digging around behind the dash. I may try to split the lead and add terminals in the trunk for RF connection. Does this make sense?

I haven't installed a radio in a car in decades and so I'm not relishing the thought of this install. I'm a do-it-yourselfer and its my wife's birthday present so I'm committed. Thanks in advance for all insights into this matter.

    Default Solutions

I'll post to myself for others benefit.

Apparently, in this particular car, the radio tuner is remotely located on the left rear fender well.

There was (in my case) an unused plug with ACC power and Batt power in the direct vicinity. I spliced into both and a ground wire that was also right there. Voila! Power!!!

The antenna lead goes right into the tuner at that location. The only problem is that it is a non standard antenna connection. Two adapter cables from a local stereo installer ($16) and now the antenna switcher is connected. Piece-o-cake.

Everything else is gravy. Hope this benefits some one else.

    Cheers!
