The ground on the aux channel is too weak to pop the trunk, it is just milliamps. There is a potential the output may have been blown already.
A relay is needed

I just installed this on my 1996 Nissan Maxima last night. Everything works as it is supposed to except the trunk release doesn't work. I double checked the wires to ensure there was continuity and there was. The wire on the remote start is Red/white that says to connect it to the purple/yellow trunk wire, which I did. On the vehicle the trunk wire has 12v until I push the trunk release on the car. when i do this the voltage goes to zero and the trunk opens. According to the instructions I just need to hold the lock button on the remote for 3 sec. and the trunk should release. The horn chirps but nothing happens. I'm assuming when the remote is pressed to release the trunk the red/white trunk wire is supposed to ground out the system just like pressing the button the car? Is the unit defective or am I missing something here? Any advice would be great.
Also, I didn't see this in the instructions, but does there need to be relay to make the trunk function work? If so, could you give me instructions on how to install this because there is only one wire from the remote starter that works to operate the trunk release.
Thanks,
Ben
