    Default Toyota Highlander 04 upgrading factory radio

    I want to remove the factory radio 86120-52241 from my '04 Highlander and install what would have been the factory radio upgrade 86120-48430. This is a 6 CD changer with RDS. BUT the connectors are DIFFERENT. The old one uses a 6 pin and 10 pin connector, the new one uses a 20 pin connector, 12 pin connector, and another 20 pin, all smaller pins. Is there an adapter harness I can find or make?

    Hello,

    We do not support or carry parts to make factory radios work from one car into another. Most modern cars will have data systems, can buses and may include amplifiers and other parts just to function. Just because you bought an used radio from the used market does not mean it will work in your vehicle. There is no guarantee. 1 or many other parts including harnesses may be required. We ALWAYS ALWAYS recommend you install an aftermarket radio since plug in harnesses and dash kits for aftermarket radios are readily available. In the long run, you will probably spend double, triple or even more installing a factory radio from another car over the cost of an aftermarket unit. Consider this option. See our car radio department.

    We do sell replacement harnesses and kits in our dash kit department. However, these parts are sold AS IS and we do not guarantee fit there is no way to guarantee a radio came out of a specific model or year of a car. ALL SALES ARE FINAL

    [QUOTE=autotoys;12319]Hello,

    We do not support or carry parts to make factory radios work from one car into another.

    Thank you for the response. I had incorrectly assumed that as long as I was substituting a radio from ANOTHER 04 Highlander (same model, same year) that the connectors would be the same. Not so. Apparently the upgraded model I intended to install comes with an external JBL amplifier when it' s factory installed. My original radio does not use an amplifier. I will try to find/make it work, but I am not optimistic.

    It is always easier and probably cheaper to add an aftermarket head unit with dash kit

    There are plenty of adapters to fit aftermarket radios into cars, and all aftermarket radios are the same size, din or double din.

    Aftermarket radios almost always offer more features also, more advanced.
