Default CD changer with AUX input - how to use?

Many years ago, I bought a SP-11CDP 10 disc changer for my 01 VW Jetta from autotoys (maybe back in 2001 or 2002). I opted for the version with the optional AUX input for future use. I am running it on my factory monsoon system.

Well, now is the time for the "future" use of the AUX input. For the life of me I can't figure out how to use the AUX input. I figured I could just take out the CD magazine and run my iPhone in the input, but the factory monsoon system will not stay on CD because it says "No magazine". I also tried running the magazine empty but got the same error. Am I supposed to run the AUX through the CD or is there another way? Actually play a CD then somehow switch to the AUX input while in CD mode?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

We packaged this unit with quite a different number of adapters. Do you have the model and manufacturer of the ADAPTER (the interface between the car and the cd changer?) - and do you have any wires coming off it that are unconnected?

BTW: Since then, many people find that buying a cheap ipod and using an ipod interface gives a great number more quantity of songs available, and clarity.

The adapter is a "Peripheral Interface Components VWASX 0281" which says it is for 99-01 Volkswagen to Alpine/Sanyo/Audiovox CD changer (connects to 12 pin harness in rear of vehicle). The harness is attached to the connector in the vehicle. There is 1 wire that is not a part of the harness that is not connected to anything - the wire color is gray.

If you ground the gray wire, it will switch the audio to the rcas. The CD changer must remain connected.
