Default re: v3aux adapter for vw (2001 beetle, no monsoon, no cd drive)

Question - has anyone installed the v3aux adapter on a vw (mine is a 2001 beetle without monsoon and without a rear cd drive)? I just purchased one and though the head unit recognizes the adapter just fine, the ground on both channels appears open. That is, in other words, the unit does not play the left and right channels correctly - it seems to play the 'L-R' difference (the difference of the two channels) out of both channels.

At least that is what is sounds like.

Are these units known to work or is the above condition a known installation issue?

    Thanks much in advance.

p.s. the part description is: VW 1998+ AUX MP3 INPUT ADAPTER [TYPE I] (SINGLE DIN ONLY) [WIRES AT FRONT OF RADIO] #196

There are no problems with this unit at all.

All of these problems are related to

    1. Users NOT GROUNDING the GROUND wire in VW to a GOOD ground .METAL. NOT part of radio
    2. They are using CHEAP 3.5 to RCA adapters, which are NOT stereo and are causing the channel problems, noise and low output.
